Yes, when the review breaks Tripadvisor’s Review Guidelines. An owner cannot delete a Tripadvisor review, and neither can we. Tripadvisor’s moderators read each report and decide. A real guest’s honest review that breaks none of the guidelines usually stays up. No one can guarantee every review comes down, because Tripadvisor makes the final decision on each one.

The guidelines name the grounds. Under Second-Hand Experiences, a review must come from a first-hand stay, meal, booking or other service, and Tripadvisor will not post one that only relays a brief phone call. Under Biased Content, no one who works or has worked at the business may review it, and nor may their friends or relatives. Owners and staff of a business in the same category, in the same municipality or within 10 miles (16 km), may not review it either, even about a real visit. Blackmail is a bad-faith demand for something the guest is not owed, such as cash or a free upgrade, backed by a threat of a review. Tripadvisor removed 814 reviews over blackmail and threats in 2024 (2025 Transparency Report).

Three rules are easy to miss. A guest may post one review per visit, and a new review of the same place only after three months for a hotel, attraction or tour, or one month for a restaurant. Every review must be submitted within one year of the experience. Under Ineligible Experience, Tripadvisor removes a review that only disputes a stated policy, such as no refunds, or only complains about opening hours or unanswered calls.

The guidelines also bind the business. Tripadvisor penalizes a business that offers a guest anything to remove a review, or that pressures or threatens a guest to remove one. It lists ranking penalties, red badges and exclusion from awards. Report the review instead, and post a calm management response (how to respond to negative reviews).

Tripadvisor is a small part of our work: about 9 in 10 of our removals are Google reviews. To start, send the links to the Tripadvisor reviews in the chat. Your account manager confirms the price and the terms with you before anything is filed. Our filing team files each review you choose with Tripadvisor, and a person checks the listing before we count a removal. You pay for the ones that come down, and a removed review that comes back is filed again at no charge. Our Tripadvisor review removal page has every guideline and the steps to report a review yourself.
