Can you remove Instagram posts and accounts?
Yes, we can file them, and Instagram decides. It removes posts, comments and accounts that break its rules, such as impersonation, not honest criticism.

Yes, we can file them, and Instagram decides each one. Instagram removes a post, Reel, comment or account only when it breaks Instagram’s Community Guidelines, Meta’s Community Standards or the law. A harsh post from a real customer that breaks no rule usually stays up. The rules that cover attacks on a business, and how to report each one yourself, are on our Instagram removal page.
A fake account breaks Meta’s rules in two common cases. If it uses your business’s name, logo or photos to pose as you, it breaks the Authentic Identity Representation policy, which bans using another person’s or entity’s name, image or likeness “with the aim to deceive others”. If someone opens a new account after Instagram removed their old one, or to contact you after you blocked them, it breaks the Account Integrity policy. Meta allows accounts for criticism, commentary, opinion and parody, so an anonymous account that only criticizes your business is not impersonation.
On your own account you can act without a report. You can delete comments on your own posts. Instagram built its Limits setting for “sudden spikes of comments and DM requests”: it hides comments and message requests from people who do not follow you or only recently followed you. Hidden Words filters comments and message requests with offensive words, phrases and emojis into a hidden folder (Instagram, August 2021). Restrict stops notifications for one person’s comments and stops them tagging or mentioning you, and Instagram does not tell them (Restrict, Mute, Block and Report). None of these settings removes a post on someone else’s account.
A false claim about your business is harder. Instagram’s defamation form says Instagram is not in a position to judge whether statements by others are true, and that without a court order it is not able to act. If the same post also harasses a named employee, shares a home address or reuses your photos, it can be reported under that rule instead.
To start, send us the links, and for a Story a screenshot and the account name. Your account manager confirms the price and the terms with you before anything is filed. Our filing team files each item with Instagram under the rule it breaks. We do not contact the person who posted or ask Instagram who runs an account (why we never contact the poster). We file all the items you choose. You pay for the ones that come down.
