Is removed content deleted or just hidden?
Usually hidden, not erased. The platform takes it off the public page for everyone, but Google and Reddit often keep a copy that can be restored later.

On most platforms, removed content is hidden from the public rather than erased. The platform takes it off the business’s public page, so no visitor sees it. We do not hide anything ourselves, and no outside company can. The platform often keeps a copy, and that is why a removed review can come back.
Google’s help page on removed and rejected content says a removed review may stay in the reviewer’s own Google Maps profile, marked “Not posted”, “Private” or “Not Accepted”. Google deletes content entirely only in some cases, because of legal requirements or a severe violation. The reviewer can edit and repost the review, or appeal the removal. What Google tells the reviewer is covered in does Google tell the reviewer. From your side, a review Google removed and a review its author deleted look the same: both are gone from the profile (why Google reviews disappear).
Yelp has two outcomes that look alike. A review that Yelp’s recommendation software does not recommend is still on Yelp, behind a link at the bottom of the business page. It does not count toward the star rating or review count, and it can move back to recommended later. Yelp removes a review only when it breaks the Content Guidelines or Terms of Service, or when the account is closed. Trustpilot’s Guidelines for businesses say a review flagged as harmful or illegal is hidden while Trustpilot investigates. Reviews flagged for other reasons stay visible during the investigation.
Reddit separates removed from deleted. When a moderator removes a post, visitors who open its link see “[Removed by moderator]”. The moderators can still see the post and can approve it back. When the author deletes a post, Reddit says moderators and admins cannot restore it. Search results can still show either one for a while (can a removed Reddit post still show on Google).
Because a platform can reverse a removal, we keep watching after it. A person checks that each review is gone from your public profile before we count it. We email you the review and its before-removal screenshot. Our monitoring reads each connected Google profile about once a day. If a removed review comes back, we file it again at no charge and never bill twice for the same review (can removed content come back).
